This is a new bean we are working on from Colombia. It's from Cofinet, one of our partners who work super closely with the farmers they buy from. This bean is from a new social program that Cofinet has fired up.
This program is incredibly special for a few reasons. Narino has the highest altitude at which coffee is grown which also means temperatures are quite low. This results in a slow maturation of the cherries which ensure higher levels of sugar in the coffee.
After three years of working side by side with many communities in Narino, Cofinet decided to start this very special program that will bring many benefits to the local communities.
With the help of our great friends at Cooperativa de Cafes Especiales de Narino, Cofinet has designed a social-driven program that will focus on quality and aim to help the smallest and least protected farmers from the region.
Cofinet will be sourcing coffees from smallholders whose farms do not exceed 1.5 hectares. The idea is to offer a base premium that will ensure farmers get at least 10% higher prices than what they normally get offered by local buyers.
