Frequently asked questions

How much is shipping?
Standard post is a flat $12.50 and express is a flat $17.50, anywhere in Australia. Orders of $100 or more ship for 1 cent. Local delivery in Ballarat and nearby towns is free on orders of $35 or more and $5 under that, and pickup from the roastery is free.
Do you offer free shipping?
Effectively yes. Orders of $100 or more ship for 1 cent anywhere in Australia. Under $100, standard shipping is a flat $12.50. Local delivery around Ballarat is free on orders of $35 or more.
Do you offer express shipping?
Yes. Express post is a flat $17.50 anywhere in Australia, on any order size.
When will my order be roasted and sent?
We roast to order, so your coffee is roasted after you buy it rather than pulled off a shelf. Orders placed before midday on a business day are usually roasted, packed and sent the same day. Orders after midday or over the weekend go out the next business day. We despatch Monday to Friday.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery times are counted in business days from despatch. Interstate orders usually arrive within 3 to 10 business days, Victorian orders are quicker, and Ballarat and surrounds quicker again. Express is faster than standard on most routes. These are carrier estimates rather than guarantees, and they stretch in December and around public holidays.
Do you deliver locally in Ballarat?
Yes, we deliver it ourselves. The Thursday run covers Ballarat and surrounds, including Ballarat Central, Wendouree, Sebastopol, Delacombe and Invermay. The Wednesday run covers Gordon, Ballan, Warrenheip, Millbrook, Mount Egerton and Lal Lal. Order by midnight Tuesday for either run. Free on orders of $35 or more, $5 under that. Everywhere else, including Buninyong, goes by post because it gets there faster.
Can I pick up from the roastery?
Yes, and it is free. Choose local pickup at checkout and wait for the email telling you it is ready before you come in, because the coffee may not be roasted yet. The roastery is at Shed 5, 10 Builders Close, Wendouree.
How do I track my order?
You get two emails from us: an order confirmation when you buy, and a despatch email with a tracking link when your parcel leaves. Local deliveries get an email on the day the order is out for delivery. If the despatch email has not arrived within two business days of ordering, check your junk folder, then email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au as soon as possible. If the parcel has not gone out we can fix it. Once the carrier has collected it we cannot redirect it, and a parcel returned to us because of an incorrect address will need to be reposted at your cost.
What if my parcel is lost or arrives damaged?
If your tracking has not moved for five business days, or your coffee arrives damaged, email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au with your order number and a photo if there is damage. We lodge the enquiry with the carrier and get a replacement out to you. You should not have to chase Australia Post yourself.
Do you ship internationally?
No, Australia only at the moment. If you are overseas and want our coffee, email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au and we will see what we can do.
What is your returns policy?
If something arrives faulty, damaged, wrong or not as described, email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au with your order number and a photo, and we will replace, repair or refund it and cover the return cost if one is needed. Change of mind returns are accepted within 30 days on unused, unopened items in their original packaging, but not on coffee, tea, chai, drinking chocolate or gift cards, for food safety reasons. Nothing in this limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
How long do refunds take?
Once approved, we process refunds within five business days back to the original payment method. Your bank or card issuer may take a further three to five business days to show it.
Which coffee should I choose?
If you drink milk coffee and want a safe first pick, Mount Buninyong. If you like a fruitier cup, Morning Habit. If you brew filter or pourover, or want a lighter, cleaner coffee, Lal Lal Falls. If you want the strongest cup we make, Kickstart. If organic sourcing matters to you, Orgánico. If you want a proper coffee at night, Nightcap.
What is the difference between your blends?
Mount Buninyong is a medium dark, chocolate driven espresso blend and our best seller, 9 out of 10 on our strength scale. Morning Habit is a medium roast with more lift and fruit, 8 out of 10. Lal Lal Falls is our lightest, medium to light, clean and gentle, 8 out of 10, and the one for filter and pourover. Kickstart is medium dark with about 20% robusta, our strongest at 10 out of 10. Orgánico is a medium roast from certified organic Colombian and Peruvian beans, 8 out of 10. Nightcap is our naturally decaffeinated single origin Colombian, a medium roast at 8.5 out of 10.
What is the difference between espresso roast and filter roast?
Espresso roasts are developed a little further so they stay balanced and full bodied under pressure, for espresso machines, stovetop and milk drinks. Filter roasts are lighter, so more of the origin character and clarity comes through in pourover, batch brew or Aeropress. Most of our range is roasted for espresso. Lal Lal Falls is the one we would pick for filter.
What grind options do you offer?
Whole bean, or ground for espresso, stovetop or moka pot, Aeropress, filter and Moccamaster, or French press. Pick the one that matches how you brew and we grind it fresh before it ships.
Should I buy whole bean or ground?
Whole bean if you have a grinder, because grinding fresh gives you more control and the coffee stays fresh for longer. If you do not have a grinder, choose the grind that matches your brew method and we grind it fresh before it ships.
How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
Roasted to order and usually despatched the same or next business day. It needs no resting time, so you can brew it as soon as it arrives. Every bag carries a roasted-on date. It is at its best within four to six weeks of roasting, then declines slowly rather than going off.
How should I store coffee?
Sealed, in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight, and in an airtight container once opened. Avoid the fridge, because moisture and food smells get into the beans.
How much coffee should I order?
Most home espresso drinkers use 18 to 22 grams per double shot, so a kilo gives roughly 45 to 55 doubles. For one person on two coffees a day that is about three to four weeks, for two people closer to two. Our coffee calculator at karonfarmcoffee.com.au/pages/how-much-coffee-do-i-need-per-week-karon-farm-coffee works it out for you and shows what a subscription would save.
Do you provide brewing guides?
Yes. Every product page has a double espresso dial-in guide, and we publish brewing guides and tips on our blog at karonfarmcoffee.com.au/blogs/news.
What home machines does your coffee suit?
All of our coffees are built for cafe service and refined to extract cleanly on home machines including Breville, Sunbeam, DeLonghi and Ninja, and they work in automatic machines.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes, on every coffee we roast. A subscription saves 10% on every bag, roasted fresh before each delivery at the frequency you choose. You get a reminder three days before each payment, and you can pause, skip, change or cancel at any time, with no cancellation fee and no minimum term.
How do I manage my subscription?
Through your account on the website. If you do not have a login, request a one-time link at karonfarmcoffee.com.au/apps/subscriptions/cp/GLMzczYNG3aEnG10R, or email hello@karonfarmcoffee.com.au. Changes take effect from your next scheduled order, so if a charge has already been processed and the coffee roasted, that delivery still goes ahead.
Do you have any discount codes?
First time buyers who sign up to our email list save 15% on their first purchase. Subscriptions save 10% on every bag. Bring your own container to the roastery for a refill and we take 10% off.
Where are you located?
Shed 5, 10 Builders Close, Wendouree, Ballarat, behind the KOH Industries building. There is plenty of parking in the factory complex.
Can I buy coffee directly from the roastery?
